Traditional Gentleman Etiquette

Roman restaurants / GHETTO
Ba "Ghetto
A promise not (yet) made

via del Portico d'Ottavia 57, 2006 -68892868. Site . Closed Friday night and Saturday lunch

S. The friend comes back from Ghetto Ba enthusiastic: "Very good, you have to put in top ten make a cod from fear. "Then it's back to this restaurant Jewish-Roman, already apprezzato con riserva, e si verifica. Ma tornando alla questione vino, alla richiesta di a second bottle, it comes to the table a yes but Gamla Merlot. Very poor quality, strength through the roof. Moreover, the bottle is left on the table miserably, without making it taste. Not a case, because the bottle before we were served in glasses from another waiter, this time without any prior sample. To close the circle of the service, there was a waiter in apparent confusion, struggling to speak and is unable to give any information on the table already Burik (puff pastry with eggs or fried potatoes). The only waitress Bruna is sentient, sharp and sympathetic approach but surely below.

KITCHEN And the kitchen? Swinging, as already experienced. Excellent muffins Yemeni always good goulash and cod, disappointing the artichokes, dry and tasteless. The rest are not in season for artichokes (like chicory, which properly are not there). Passable bass and mixed grill. The sickly sweet is the kunafa (phyllo dough, pistachios, almonds and honey), but it is a matter of taste, the cakes are so Middle Eastern. In short, high and low that strengthen the impression of confusion which contaminates food and service. It must be said that at lunch the service is much better, entrusted to the hands of friendly young people. The impression is that of a promise not realized: if the owners take back a bit 'over the reins of the situation, you can still straighten.

IN MENU Fantasia sauces (humus - chick peas, protein - sesame babaganub - eggplant). Falafel (fried chickpea balls). Sigariot (rolled pasta stuffed with meat), Yemeni flat bread served with spicy tomato sauce, Burik (puff pastry with eggs or fried potatoes), shawarma (sandwich with lamb), shish kabab (ground beef kebabs and spicy) Meorav Yerushalmi (meat, chicken heart and liver with onions), couscous, dried cod, mergaz (Spicy Sausage) baklawa (pastry, raisins, almonds and honey), Kunafa (phyllo dough, pistachios, almonds and honey), Basbusa (semolone cake and coconut)

ACCOUNT Burik 4, artichokes 4.5, 14 cod, chicory with roe 6, 1.5 bread, water 2.5, 5 Kunafa: 37.5

BONUS: the tables on the sidewalk and the pleasant environment

MALUS : the video in the window with the photo galleries of celebrities, including Alain Elkann and Alemanno ...

UPDATE
(a bell'approfondimento on that 'food treacherous "which is the hummus, as suggested by the chicory's friend in the comments, can be found here )

ROME RESTAURANTS / OPEN HOLIDAY / SUMMER 2010

Eating well in August

View Red chicory in a larger map

Where to eat in Rome in August, not intoxicated, perhaps in a pleasant and cool? Oh, what a question. It's not easy. What caterers make us your suitcases from one day to another, often without warning. Earned vacation, for heaven's sake. But we're here to fry, we need an updated guide to eating well, if we do not want to fall into despair typical macaroni (you've read ?!?). That newspapers have more to think about: charity, important things, and Freedom's Future looming, the terzopolismo, fibrils and Nucara Rotondi, the effect of White Whale, the polls early, the hot air . And then there we do. With our favorite restaurants, you already know, and some news, which is essential in times of summer heat and lack of choice.
(you are Milan ?!? Ah, lucky you. In this case, here is the golden list of the excellent M. Valerio Visintin)

Osteria arc
A really nice place in a road close to Porta Pia, where dine quietly with the recipes of chef Cristina and the excellent wine list (many organic). In fact here is home and good. Service friendly and helpful

Trattoria degli amici
La posizione è splendida e si cena all'aperto. Ma la caratteristica principale di questa trattoria, è che è gestita da una cooperativa che fa capo alla Comunità di Sant'Egidio e che è composta da disabili e da volontari. Tutta gente simpatica. Da provare

Ai fornelli Damiano Ruggeri propone ricette biologiche ed esotiche, hummus, tzatziki, eggplant mille-feuille, spaghetti with clams and mullet, seitan with carrots and more

The limonaia
The location, as they say, is extraordinary, in the center of Villa Torlonia, Mussolini's former residence. A park all to visit and an outdoor restaurant, which does not keep the promises culinary, but it is fascinating. To be sure, a beautiful Roman pizza in the oven and the fear passes.
